    Piggy's Uni Memories (19-21)

Wah...i was reading my old posts...when i stumbled on these posts written back in 2005 and 2006!!! Wahaha~

    Piggy's Teenage memories (17-18) (06/05/2005)

    Piggy's Teenage Memories (13-16) (11/06/05)

    Piggy's Childhood Memories (25/05/05)

Hmmm...let me try to recap what happen during the Uni days...

    1. I had a hard time choosing which course to study after i got the 'A' level results. The courses that i shorlisted are Business (at both NTU & NUS), Architecture(NUS), Major in Mathematics (NUS), Psychology and Engineering. NTU Business School was my 1st choice then as that's the only school in SG that offers the course Actuarial Science. And why actuarial? I read up about it from a local career guide book. Good prospects, unique profession and it's about maths + statistics + business. And I like things that are not the norm (i.e.business or engineering) In fact, I prefer NTU to NUS, since the former is of a more relaxed / laid back environment compared to NUS, which i think has a rather competitive environment (and i don't like it) I'd rather be in the suburbs, at the western end of SG.

    2. I enjoyed my 1st year course of business, as there's a variety of 'interesing' subjects. Business law and Accounting are so interesting that i did not mind studying them again. Well, I had spent way too much time coaching someone whom i call hubby now for his 'A' levels back then that i thought my own studies can come after that.

    3. I had a taste of being in a courtship which was rather short-lived, at the end of my 1st semester in the freshmen year. He's the one and only guy whom i think there's probably a chance for us. We attended the same tutorials in that semester. He told me that he noticed that i'd be staring at him when he's talking and that I dun make eye-contact with other people. Probably he likes the exclusive attention i'd given him? Haha~ At some nights, he would call me from his hostel to chit chat. It started from a project discussion which got evolved to casual talks. But if i'm not the wrong, the number of phonecalls we had can be counted using 1 hand? or 2?

On our 1st date, he gave me 3 stalks of blue roses(he had asked me wat flowers i like); asked me to wear a skirt (since i only wear pants/jeans back in my teenage years); sent me all the way back to the north despite the fact that he stays in the east; played with my fingers and almost held my hand on the MRT train ride... I'd probably never forget the scene when he waved at me (my flat is on the 2nd floor) while talking on the hp with me. I'd never forget how hard he tried to keep the dates interesting, and surprises he wanted to plan for me. I'd also never forget the question he asked me on ICQ when i rejected him because of my hubby. 'Are you sure he's the one?' But i'm happy for him now since he had gotten married some 2 years back.

    4. During my 2nd year, I got into the specialisation which i always wanted and many fellow course mates shunned as they thought it is a difficult area to get in. Yeah. So many shunned it that there are only 18 of us in the cohort despite 25 vacancies were being offered that year. I was delighted as if i had got into some 'exclusive' club. Haha~ It was during my 1st day in my 2nd year that i learnt from the professor that we had to continue taking professional papers after graduation (NTU only offers exemption for core technical subjects from the IOA, provided you score good grades for those modules) Oops.

    5. I skipped lectures so that i can get more sleep at home. Gave tuition to students ranging from primary, secondary and JC (basically on mathematics and chinese) in order to earn more pocket money for myself. Always study at last minute and continuously at the benches/empty lecture theatres/unoccupied seminar rooms in NTU from morning til evening during the exam preparation period. Yes~ i dun really like to study in libraries. And i dun think i like those examination halls which are big, cold and full of people. I shudder at the sight of students almost burying their heads into the tables.

    6. I did not stay in the hostel for many reasons. 1) No entertainment, i.e. TV, PC, telephone 2) No Aircon 3)Got to do own laundry and cooking. 4) My father can bring me to school/home since his workplace is less than 5 mins drive from NTU. 5) Need to join activities to earn points so that i can continue to stay in the hall, which i think is....pointless.

    7. I nearly wanted to join the Strings ensemble under the influence from someone (whom i call hubby now) back then. Well, when you are interested in somebody, you are just interested in things that interest him la. I thought there'd be a day when i can play a violin while he play on his bass/cello. I couldn't afford a violin and my coursemate (guy from No.3) bought me a muscial toy violin. Haha~ I gave up that idea as i got plain lazy. The practise timings are in the late evenings. No way i want to reach home ard 11-midnight.

    8. The way the students board on the bus (the only bus from Boon Lay interchange to NTU) sometimes made me wonder whether i'm in a university or in the highly populated country, starting with letter 'I'. Okie i think i had exaggerated. But there's definitely no proper queue.

    9. Had a very bad cold war with my best friend aka my wifey in 2002, sometime between her 21st birthday and mine. That's a torturing period of 4 months. Imagine you couldnt/don't want talk to someone who is once dear to you? I'd wanted to mend the friendship but being spiteful back then it was hard for me to do so. Thanks to our mutual good friend (wonder if wifey remember who the guy is) who got her to celebrate my 21st birthday together... Hope that nothing will ever tear our friendship apart.

    To be continued~ Working piggy's memories (21 ~ 25)

    August 06

    Piggy's Teenage memories (17-18)

Now,  recap of piggy's life during the JC dayz...

    1. Before the release of 'O' levels results, all students would have 3  months of holidays and we could choose to go to a JC first based on our secondary school preliminary results. I chose NYJC (Nanyang) cuz i heard from a friend that 'someone' is going(But i never got to see him in that school during that period...). And commerce course just becuz i'm sick of studying science.

    2. Got to know my best buddy a.k.a my wife or Jaz on the 1st day of school. Few ppl mistook her for a japanese cuz of her very fair complexion (If 'The ring' was aired that time, maybe she'll be mistaken as 'Sadako'. Muahaha).
I'd tot she's an introvert cuz she din talk much to us. But i'm Wrong~~~  Though she looks the demure type of gal who can't stand the sun and rain, she's actually a super hyperactive gal and one who gets bored easily. Ask her to stay at home and rot, she'll surely feel life is meaningless. You also wouldn't believe she's an ex-NCC cadet, Senior Cadet Lieutenant (S/CLT) to be exact, back in her sec sch days. And an ex SMU volleyball club President and our Pool Queen!!!

So, never judge a book by it's cover. She may be stronger as you'd expect too cuz she knows what she wants in her life and would work hard towards her goals. Putting her refined lady looks one side, she also got a sweet voice (though can be squeaky sometimes~) and she would freak out when watching horror movies...haha no wonder some of her guy friends just love to bring her to watch this genre of movies.
    (Jazzy in Korea)IMG_1103.jpg

But this lady is well-known for being late. Be it for school or sometimes for work and for dates with me. So, I'd usually ask to meet her 1/2 hour to 1 hour before the actual meeting time. Hmmm, no wonder she's so fit la from all the running to school, to work and to appointments. However, this weakness did saved her from the london blast at the train station a mth ago. Phew~

Anyway,  Happy Belated Birthday to you, gal. But think it's still 5th August in Ldn now. Heehee~~~

    3. Not to mention, i'd also met my bf in that sch. We were classmates for only 1 week before he switched to 'science' stream. I'd still see him hanging around in school but we weren't close that time (only got closer after we left that sch). But he left a deep impression in me, not only that he's tall but also cuz of 2 incidents. One of which i'll not write here (wonder if he knows) and another one is the way he plays the piano. Yup, i admit...that's how i got 'cheated'...

    4. Besides my dear wife 'Jaz', i've also got to know many good buddies (acknowledge some of them as 'godbrothers'-including my bf, 'godma', 'godpa', 'god-uncle', 'taigong' & 'grandpa') during this period of time. Thanks to them, i know how to get to Suntec City (i'd only roam around Yishun and Ang Mo Kio back in my sec sch days), familiarize myself with shopping centres at Orchard road, 'Pon tan' / skip lectures and tutorials, play 'Pool' & 'Dai Di', go 'KTV', laugh louder and more heartily and enjoy life even more~ If only we can stop the time~
Though i left that sch for AJC after the release of 'O' level results, we would still make the effort to meet up often for play and study. Though, some of us had drifted apart, but i believe the memories would still remain in our hearts.

Oh yes, there's one lady who makes me feel guilty whenever i stepped on the grass patch (imagine you got yelled for walking across the rectangular grass patch in your school compound) This sounds silly, but she's one the of the pushing factors that make me consider gg to AJ.

    5. As expected, i din enjoy my school days in AJC. Cuz you'd miss your friends who had fun & laughter with you and find it harder to socialize with people who seems to be of 'different frequency' from you. So, my enthusiam died down and i buried myself in books once again.

Fortunately, i have my dearest buddy, Pat, who suffered thru' the times with me and tolerated my bad temper back then. We studied in NY (though i never met her there) and thus we are on the same boat. Haha, maybe that's why we 'click' better. She's another one who looks like easily blown down by any strong wind but actually stronger at heart (got well-trained when she joined the Student Council, i guess). She certainly has more patience and endurance than anyone and if u can make her angry, i'd think you are very 'powerful' in the negative way, of course. Oh yes...today is her bdae....Happy birthday to you, gal and may all the best things will fall upon you!
    (me and Pat)

    6. Became more familiar with the Internet and hook on IRC and ICQ. Had my first email account back then, think it's iewiz@yahoo.com :p

7.Got my first pager, Pink translucent numeric one. We would exchange coded messages back then. 9000 177947 as GOOD NIGHT (Something like that) or 1 177155 17 as I MISS 'Inverted U'

Soon, many carried those with alphanumeric functions. Our messages get longer and we would 'chat' via sending these alpha-numeric messages. Back in those days '2' + '1' gives you 'A' and '2' + '2' gives you 'B' and so on. Our fingers move faster and become stronger. Ha~ Leaving voice messages in friends' mailbox also become habit for me, though i find it weird toking to a machine at first.

But very soon, handphones overtook the pagers and SMS becomes the 'In' thing...
At first, fingers were not used to pressing '2' once for 'A' and pressing '2' twice for 'B'. But practice makes perfect. One can even drive when sms-ing...

    8. Picked up harmonica during JC times. I'd always tot it's an old man stuff(only uncles like my father age would like to play it) but strange thing is, i joined the band (partly cuz of peer-my 'wife' also joined harmo band as well in NY and that it's one of the most relaxed ecas) and enjoy gg for the practices (Cuz only need to practice in air-conditioned room, sitting down and get to see our smart student band conductor). It's one of the easiest instrument to learn and play, (i find la...) though lips got numb sometimes... and it's one of the best instruments to play the Chinese oldies and i simply love our band playing Cai Qing's 最後一夜 ~~~ Can feel heart goes numb~~~ But my harmo is rotting in my drawer after i graduated. Sad~ Dun think there's chance to touch it again as it's more enjoyable to play in a band than alone.

    9. Started my 1st tuition assignment during the JC days. It's terrible as i've passed off as a UNi-graduate when i teach my 1st student, a P2 girl whom i find that she's a very well-pampered gal and doe not need to have tuition at all.The mum saw thru that i'm only 18 (cuz the silly me lend the child a book on which i wrote the date my mum bought it and my class P2E). She said 'bye' to me and the reason she gave is i'm too 'expensive'. $90 for 3 hours per week is expensive meh?

    10. Finding a part-time job after the 'A' levels was fun (to me). Me and my 'wife' tried out a few jobs like selling 'Angel' cans for a charity organization (sold only 1 can and finished distributing all the leaflets and earning not enough to cover my taxi fare) and call-agents(picking up only 1 to 2 calls per day and sometimes none)

The longest part time job we hold together would be Temporary Tax officers at the IRAS. Most part-timers are like us, rotting our time away before going to Uni and thus we hit off quite well. I remember all of us were separated into teams of 10 to assess those bundled stacks of tax forms everyday til we became like automated machines. But the pay is considered not bad to us~ Hmm...til now, a few team members are still keeping contact with me...

Oh yes, we worked as waitresses at the same country club (which i never wan to go again) during Uni times. One of the aunties told me this job is not for us, shouldn't be taking up such tough job. True, it's stressful when we got to move fast esp there're many orders during the peak hours and we can't afford to make customers wait long for the food. But, why think uni studens should only stay in office lei? Young ppl should come out to work harder then can appreciate, for e.g. being served in restaurants mah...keke~ Anyway, i appreciated the job very much. But, one time experience is enuff for me. Hee~ Piggy only knows how to eat, dunno how to serve food.

    Piggy's Memories (19-21)

    August 01

    Piggy's Teenage Memories (13-16) (11/06/05)

Finally i regain my memory and so the second part is here...

    Piggy when aged 13~16 (Sec1~4)

    1. Chose ASS (Anderson Sec) as my 1st choice and the reason for that is: I like the uniform~
But transport is quite terrible for me. Have to take 3 rides to go to school. 2 feeder buses and MRT rides.

    2.My ECAs:
Started out with Netball. Quitted it after a few weeks as I didn't the way the trainer treat the non-school players during the practices.
Ended up in Choir again (Also joined choir during my pri sch days). That's where i make quite a number of close friends like Limin, Peiwen, Soon Sze and Huijun... We always have fun during the practices, especailly when we were preparing for big events like the SYF (Singapore Youth Festival Compeitition) and our new School building open house.
Joined 2 other ecas (Chinese Painting and Peer Support Programme) in Upper Sec. The Chinese Painting was pathetic as there were only less than 10 members. Closed down after we graduated. We had painted a a big piece work together for the school canteen, but i wonder if it's still there now. Peer Support programme...guided the sec-one juniors with other group members to prepare for their camp-fire shows and took them out for some community visits. The juniors are so fortunate to have us, the friendly seniors to help them settle in the new environment. Keke~

    3.My teachers.
Some of them pronounced my name as Lee Ji-wei. (Faint~) One even commented that my name is a guy's name. Some teachers who i remembered,
In Sec 1: Our Science Teacher is KFC (that's her initals mah)
In Sec2: Our Maths teacher likes to look at the floor when teaching. She can stare at the floor and point at u to answer her questions. But i always enjoy her lessons.
My Chinese teacher can tell good and interesting stories. My geography teacher made me lost interest in that subject.
In Sec 3: Our Chinese teacher has lots of clothes. We never see her wearing the same clothes thru'out the year. My biology teacher is nice and handsome (hee~) So fortunate to have him teaching us for 2 years.
In Sec 4: The English teacher commented that my essay is a primary school kid's essay. (true~ i admit that...anyway i converse better in mandarin than english)
My Maths teacher is the school discipline master and our form teacher as well (There's a reason for that.) Won't forget the times he ask our class to scrub the floors when we never do or hand in our assignments; times when he asked questions that everyone can't answer and the whole class had to stand up for the whole lesson; times when he knocked my head when i gave the wrong answer; the killer papers he set for us during exams. But thanks to his teachings, i learn how to make maths statements that make sense and logical and love the subject even more.

    4. Had 3 crushes during that 4 years. The 1st happened in sec 1 and the 2nd in sec 2. Both guys
avoided me after they knew. Nvm, I kept the 3rd one as a secret for almost 2 years. Dropped a few hints in sec 4 but failed as well. But if not for him, i guessed i wouldn't chose to go NYJC after the 'O' levels where i got to know my bf...(See~ everything happens for a reason~)

    5. Made a number of good friends in ASS.
Huifen (We were in the same class from P5 to Sec2) cuz of her company, i learnt to speak up more and make friends.
Meixian (the one i call Hubby). We would travel home toegther after school even though we went to different classes after sec2.
Peiwen, Limin, Soon Sze and other choir friends. Cuz of them, my choir sessions are never boring.
Qimin, Shuxian and Yanwen (the ones who sat next to me when i'm in sec 2, 3 and 4) Cuz of them, i never feel bored during the lessons. Ha~
Wenjun, Yanwen, Shuxian and Zhisheng. There were a few times when we stayed back after the peer support sessions to have fun & chit chat.
My crushes. Made me look forward to go school evceryday. Ha~

    6. Had to wear name tages in that school. Always pinned my school badge near the nametag to cover up my name. It's short enough to be covered wor~
    7. We'd hide our textbooks at some corners in the class (under the desk, behind the cupboards etc) or cut our textbooks into 2 or 3 pieces to avoid carrying a heavy bag to school. My Sec3 history teacher was shocked to see us do that and ordered us to glue the history textbook back into 1 piece.
    8. Test tips would be passed from 1 class to another. There was an occassion when some kind soul wrote the question on the blackboard. Hee~
9.Idolised Jeff Chang back then. Cuz of his '不要對他說' Missed his concert cuz i was a poor student then. Also liked an TV star, Chew Chor Meng cuz of his '金牌師爺'.
10.Started my 1st comics series, Dragonball when i was in sec 2 or 3, thanks to my cousin... Followed by Young Guns (cuz of it, i always wanted to visit Taiwan) , Slam Dunk, Sailormoon...
    11. Learnt to iron clothes in Sec1. Since then, i'd iron my uniforms, my brother's and my dad's on every sat night for 2 hours while watching Ch8 TV programme and i start to hate ironing guys pants.
    12. Physical appearance: Started to keep my hair long during sec 2. and i'd tie my hair into 2 long ponytails. (look like some countryside gal) I cut it real short in sec 4 before the 'O' levels cuz i cannot tahan the stress... Stopped growing vertically in sec 4 and grow horizontally instead. Hiak.

    To be Continued

    Piggy's Childhood Memories (25/05/05)

    Piggy when aged 0~4

1.Born in K.K hospital, 18th December, early morning.
2.1st child to my parents, 1st grandchild to my paternal grandparents and 2nd one to my maternal grandparents.
3.Stayed in Bedok North, near to my aunty and grandparents.
    4. Mum would always have to carry a 'big stone' to the market cuz i was a fat baby.
5.Got freaked out by a charity advertisement where there's this clown who paint his face pure white with thick red lips and 2 streaks of black lines across his eyes. I fell off the baby chair and cried for my mum.

6.Like to dance in front of TV especially when Su Rui (some taiwanese singer) is singing.
    7.Got a baby brother when i'm three.
8.Got burnt by a cigarette butt and scarred on my right elbow when i'm four.
9.Have a neighbour who is of same age as me. He even wore my clothes to take photos when we were young. We moved to Yishun together but i've lost touch with him since a few years ago.
10.Moved to Yishun loh~ (heard that my old flat wasn't 'clean'...)

    Piggy when aged 5 to 8(K1-Primary 2)
1.When i was in K1, I studied in the PAP kindergarden at Yishun Blk 700+, near a park, where i'd see those ah peks and ah mas doing taiji in the evenings.
    2. A cute boy with name Chen XXXXX Chen (i forgot the name) sitting next to me. I only remembered that I splash water onto his face while he was eating ice cream in class. Very mischevious then.
    3. I switched to the PAP at Blk 200+ when i was in K2. Forgot the reason. Could be that it's nearer to my block.
    4. A gal who stayed at my opposite block studied in the same kindergarden as me. We became quite good friends. She even gave me a rabbit. (But it died very soon after i became it's owner.)
    5. Know a boy who got a similar name as me in that kindergarden. He later got into the same pri sch as me, but fortunately not in the same class. (in fact, i know 2 other boys with similar names in the same pri school, and...same class as me.)

    6. I would cry when my friends won't lend me crayons. SO petty.
    7. Took the Kindergarden graduation photo. I was very blur then, dunno what was happening during the photo taking session. I only rememeber that we were made to queue up in a straight line and our teacher will help us put on the "gown" and the ugly looking hat. Then i was told to hold on a piece of rolled-up paper and smile in front of the camera. Result: I looked very 'gong gong' in the photo.
    8. Admitted to a primary school near my flat. Only 5 minutes walk from home. Super duper convenient. However i dun like the uniform. White shirt and navy blue pleated skirt. Worse thing is, i cannot keep long hair...argh~
9.Never cried during my first day in school. In fact, i tried to correct my form teacher that my surname was spelt wrongly that it should be 'Li' instead of 'Lee'. So malu. I never knew i have a dialect name. Too bad, i was only taught by my parents that my name is spelt as Li Ziwei. I know two other classmates who have similar names as me. One of them bears the surname 'Chen' and the other one is 'Jiang'. Our teachers would have to call out our full names to avoid confusion. The 3 of us are in the same class for 4 years (Class 1E to 4E) .
    10. Carried a big red rectangular bag to school everyday. Dunno what is call a timetable.

    11. Had some medical problems and so was excused from PE (physical education session). Once, I mixed up my classmates uniforms when they were doing exercises (for some unexplainable and childish reason). In the end, many of them wore the wrong uniforms. Got scolded by the PE teacher and my form teacher.
    12. Dunno how to differentiate between 30 cents and 3 dollars when i was in P1. Went to a bookshop to buy a set of crayons that cost $3 and I paid the cashier30 cents instead. Of course, she refused to accept. Then somehow, i put the crayons in my skirt pocket(when no one notices) and took a pair of scissors to the cashier and pay for that. In the end, i paid 30 cents for the set of crayons and scissors. Unfortunately, my crayons got stolen and i decided to use the same 'trick' again. Got caught during my 2nd attempt but manage to get away with a light punishment (a scolding by a prefect).
13.Got promoted to Pri 2. Wore specs for the first time and my 1st pair of specs is a very big, pink, plastic specs.
14.Got a home tutor who taught me English and Maths. We got along well and she taught me until i reached P6.
    15. Got enrolled into a music school and took up organ lessons (went for the lessons on every saturday evening until i reach 18). Dropped the lessons cuz i was busy preparing for 'A' levels. Never continue after that...

    Piggy when aged 9 to 12(Primary 3-Primary 6)
    1. My maternal grandma died when i was 9. She fell sick and was hospitalized. No one ever brings me to the hospital to visit her until one day my paternal grandma told me that she's bringing me to visit my ah ma. I was so happy and i wanted to dress up nicely for her. But i was told to dress only in blue or white. It turned out to be that she's bringing me to attend my ah ma's funeral wake. That is the first time i experienced the feeling of losing a loved one. She's the person i'm missing most...
    2. Sat for some streaming examinations in P3.
    3. Became a class monitress in P4. Got to shout 'Class, keep quiet!' almost every morning before the morning assembly. During the primary school days, all P1, P3 and P5 students were in the afternoon session while the rest were in the morning sessions.
    4. Studied very hard for another streaming examinations in P4. I remembered i can finish one assessment book in a day. Dunno's what's call life then. Ha.
    5. Got involved in a 'sketch' or play then. The play that we put up is the 'Goose that lays golden eggs'. Me and the other 'Ziwei' acted as the old couple who killed the goose for its golden eggs. I'd always remembered the famous line spoken by the goose, 'You killed me~~~" after he was 'hacked' by us.
    Hahaha ...

    6. Got streamed to EM1 in P5. Felt very sad then as i'm going to be separated from my bunch of classmates of 4 years ( we were in the same class from P1 to 4)
    7. Went to class 5B(stuck in the same class for 2 years until P6). I knew no one except for a few from my previous class. Became as quiet as a mouse since then.
    8. Always like to meet up with my best friend(from another class) during recess time. I was an anti-social gal among my new classmates then.
    9. Always got irritated by the boy sitting besides me during P5. We were sitting at the first row then. Must be cuz i'm one of the short gals in the class.
    10. Moved a few rows back in the same year and was arranged to sit besides a talkative boy. (must be cuz teacher thinks i'm a quiet gal bah). But he became my first crush, though i was unfriendly and cold towards him all the time. (Feelings were hidden very well and no one knows that except for my best friend).

Shall continue Part 2 in a few days time...
